Live Recording of Baba Jai Ghar Karte with Chris and Ryan Pais

We just came back from a thanksgiving camp in Santa Cruz.  It was me, my wife Shilpy and the kids.  I was sort of in a hurry to come back because I had invited Chris to come home to do some practice on this new composition in Raag Asa.  I had a great time practicing about an hour with Chris and Ryan Pais this evening.  Here is a copy of what we sang today:

Translation (Raag Aasaa, Guru Nanak)

There are six “houses,” six teachers, six sets of teachings.

But the Teacher behind all teachers is One—wearing countless robes.

O Baba, wherever the Creator’s praise is alive,

keep to that house; true greatness abides there. (Pause)

Seconds, minutes, hours; day-watches, lunar dates, weekdays, months—

from a single sun arise the many seasons.

O Nanak, from the Creator flow the many costumes.

(Notes on key words: ਘਰ ghar = “house / school / system”; ਵੇਸ vès = “dress, guise, outward form”; ਕੀਰਤਿ kīrat = “praise, celebrating the Creator.”)
