DhunAnand Foundation - Supporting Artists Who Serve The Planet

Note to Listeners: Why and How DhunAnand was Started:

The guru has conjured music through me and for that reason it is guru's gift to the world.  Since I had started a YouTube channel in 2014, I was relatively unknown. But, thanks to so many of you joining int to listen to this music around the world, lately there has been a significant increase in traffic. In just the last year, you all have invested over 50 million minutes of their time listening to this music. This is very humbling for me because I have not done any commercial promotion.  The guru is truly involved in this along with the blessings of the listeners.  So I am immensely thankful to the guru and you all!

While I have been fortunate to spend many hours doing what I love, and you have invested a lot of time and energy listening and sharing the same.  While the money being generated is meagre, it is sacred to me. I know from interactions I have had with you, this music is sacred to you as well.  So my desire is to do some good for humanity through the proceeds of this music.  For that purpose I envisioned the creation of DhunAnand Foundation.

The ongoing pandemic resulted in severe hardships for artists worldwide. I am hopeful that the formation of DhunAnand will help bring resources to a few committed artists to let them do what they love doing. Moreover, I hope that we can develop some content to raise awareness and inspire action on climate change, one of the highest needs of our times.  We believe the “Dhun” or content that we create will change hearts and minds and bring about “Anand” or joy in the world.

In July 2021, I took advice from many of my listeners and decided to start a nonprofit corporation through which we could help artists.  For that purpose, since the middle of this year, a group of volunteers started meeting weekly to work on DhunAnand. We incorporated DhunAnand Foundation as a nonprofit in California on August 18, 2021.  We realized early on, that it wasn't just financial resources that artists needed; they also needed inspiration, direction, help with sound, graphics, video, social presence, distribution, and marketing.  We are providing resources and inspiration to artists, and also organizing some performances for 2022.  Our first online event is called Be Like The Whales; it will be an online event to raise awareness and inspire action for saving our oceans and marine life.

Mission & Vision of DhunAnand

The mission of DhunAnand Foundation is to support artists who are serving the planet. We provide artists the resources so they can inspire the world to solve humanity's biggest problems.  We envision bringing lasting joy to the world through our creative endeavors.

Biggest Problems Currently Faced by Humanity

  • The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change recently detailed how “catastrophic impacts lie ahead" unless the world rapidly cuts greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Data overwhelmingly indicating that climate change, environmental pollution, and epidemics/pandemics are having a detrimental effect on mental health.
  • While awareness of climate change and its impacts has improved, people are often hesitant to take action to change their behavior.
  • Many artists often lack resources or the inspiration to develop joyful non-commercial music that they love creating. This has been exaggerated due to the ensuing pandemic. Johns Hopkins University reports that, as of August 2021, the percentage of job losses at nonprofit arts organizations remains nearly 4 times worse than the average of all nonprofits.

    DhunAnand's Solutions

    Empower Artists

We empower artists who are committed to their art as well as to humanity. We can help such artists in developing and distributing their creations, as well as providing inspiration for new purposeful projects. In our first year, we are providing need-based monthly stipends for around five artists for a year. For additional artists and inspiring projects aligned with our mission, we are providing inspiration, distribution, marketing and additional post-production services.

    Foster Oneness

Our music and related art projects foster oneness by raising awareness and inspiring action on shared goals. Consistent with the 17 sustainable development goals adopted by United Nation member states in 2015, these projects aim to reduce inequalities, fight poverty, hunger, conflict, disease and illiteracy, spur economic growth and tackle climate change.

    Fight Climate Change

We believe climate change is significant threat to the world as we know it and through DhunAnand Foundation we envision creating a global community of revolutionaries who become Ambassadors of Oneness who inspire changes that will save our planet and bring long lasting joy to its people.

    Volunteers: Ambassadors of Oneness

What makes me the most excited is to find people who want to help everywhere ... we are calling them Ambassadors of Oneness.  I have been humbled by the support of many of my fellow collaborators and artists who have decided to lend their creativity to this project.  More than just feeding a few artists, I envision that through DhunAnand we can raise awareness about the big problems that the humanity faces like climate change.

Where does the name DhunAnand come from?

On June 18, 2021 I started meditating on the following Guru Arjan Shabad in Raag Kalyan:

      Gun nāḏ ḏẖun anand beḏ
Kathaṯ sunaṯ mun janā mil sanṯ mandlī

Translation: The Glory of God is the Sound-current of the Naad, the Celestial Music of Bliss, and the Wisdom of the Vedas. Speaking and listening, the silent sages and humble beings join together, in the Realm of the Saints.

The name of the project came Guru Arjan's "dhun anand" which refers to the joyous melody of the unstruck praise sound.
