I have no enemy, there is no stranger - Guru Arjan

Here is something I recomrded today.  It is the first song that I learned and it continues to teach me today that the purpose of life is to sing.  I was recording this today on my dad's 68th birthday to thank him for giving me the gift of music.  My dad was the one who asked my first music teacher to come home when I was very young to learn kirtan.  Here is the recording from today (and following is the meaning of the song):

बिसरि गई सभ ताति पराई ॥
Bisar ga▫ī sabẖ ṯāṯ parā▫ī.
I have totally forgotten my jealousy of others

Jab ṯe sāḏẖsangaṯ mohi pā▫ī. ||1|| rahā▫o.
since I found the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||1||Pause||

No one is my enemy, and no one is a stranger. I get along with everyone. ||1||

Jo parabẖ kīno so bẖal māni▫o eh sumaṯ sāḏẖū ṯe pā▫ī. ||2||
Whatever God does, I accept that as good. This is the sublime wisdom I have obtained from the Holy. ||2||

Sabẖ mėh rav rahi▫ā parabẖ ekai pekẖ pekẖ Nānak bigsā▫ī. ||3||8||
The One God is pervading in all. Gazing upon Him, beholding Him, Nanak blossoms forth in happiness. ||3||8|

    1. Thanks for commenting. I don't agree with what you said, and I hope you don't mean it because this is contrary to the thinking of the Guru Nanak that lives in you.

We associate the Guru with present "sikhs" and gurbani with "gurmukhi." My dear friend, the language of the guru is not gurmukhi. The language of the guru is truth and love; it cannot be expressed in language. That is why the eternal guru has given us three tools: poetry, music and the companionship of singers ("saadh sangat") -- because a combination of these tools can be used to feel the mystery of the universe ( understanding is not possible, but feeling is). The whole point of this blog is that I have found singers everywhere (Guru Nanak finds singers everywhere as he says in So Dar). These singers use their own languages to sing beautifully in different colors. We call them raags (rangs).

This problem is, unfortunately, widespread among those of us who call ourselves "Sikhs". In Guru Nanak's eyes everyone is a sikh, its just that some are near and some are far (Changiyaiyan ...). By our limited thinking (that Guru is the static word, or some person who lived and died, or that the teaching of our gurus can only be understood in gurbani), we have limited the scope of Guru Nanak's beautiful teachings.

I will probably be reprimanded for my views, but I stand for Guru Nanak who stands for the truth. There is no language that my guru prefers. There are no people he prefers. Guru Nanak is for the world and so is Gurbani. And we really have to think why we have our thinking limited.
