Take it seriously shiv
you live now
to sing

Love,
shiv, like a child,
with no cares, rules, boundaries

Stranger
will you be
shiv's friend?

Passing Stranger
For ignoring my faults
I will ignore your strangeness

Dear stranger
I just want you to
know that shiv loves you too

Stranger, I
love you
too

Dear stranger
who thinks I am weird
I don't find you weird anymore

Dear Stranger
I may not have been
sent here to sing to you but
now that I am here, I serenade!

First, there's the fear of death shiv
Then the loosing of ego
In the end love

The river that flows in me
also flows in you and just like you
about the final ocean shiv has little clue

There she sits shiv,
the sexy, sweet singing,
beautiful, bejeweled tomorrow

Can't finish the song
that you didn't
start shiv

Let me tell you a secret,
shiv, open your ears
close your eyes

You can't hear
the song unless you
turn down your ego shiv

There are two kinds of beauty shiv
the beauty of beauty, and the
relinquishing of beauty

Don't conform to norms shiv
sing brutally honest
sing true

Raging beauty of flowers
Then their undressing
shiv, year after year

It's too spicy
I can't not have it either
shiv, what a word pickle poem

Your life is your message
make it inspiring
shiv sing!

Starry nights
drenched with due
above all, dreams of you

When I leave my path
my path follows
my song

I meditate in the morning because
Dalai Lama said that the best
meditation is sleep

Don't make me walk
In a straight line
After singing

Sans music
poetry is like a
painting without color.

I think this is it.
Life love truth and all.
Now. That's reincarnation.

Hope: Today
tomorrow dreams
For a future with you

Absence of reason
makes love beautiful
and goodbyes painful

A moment of silence
for the songs
unheard

Dear question
that has no answer
thanks for your wonder

Make it gorgeous shiv
in the wave of life
catch sunlight

The smaller the size
of bamboo, shiv,
higher it sings

Shiv if you are not drunk
from these words
it's not poetry

There is no tree planted, shiv,
which does not belong
in its place

Shiv's an intermittent poet
with a terminal illness
to know it all

This world's not all bad
Neither good, shiv,
Just Colorful!

You have no eyes
For truth
shiv

I've searched all the oceans
There is no deeper book
Than the heart shiv

Stranger,
Will you be my teacher?
Inspire me like you inspire others?

Due to your craziness
And silly ideas
I love you

Only one who has truly sung
has known the unknown
sing shiv sing

Pineapple Popsicle
That's not a
Poem

This hour is a house
quietly vacant
Sssllow

shiv
The teacher
of all teachers is one.

Sometimes a sparkling star
Sometimes star dust
Colors of shiv

Don't lose what you love
shiv, in the busyness
of this life

I am nothing
More than a handful of sand
But you can't blow me with the wind

I think this is it.
Life love truth beauty.
Now. That's reincarnation.

Crazy people
don't have horns
on their heads shiv.

It takes 17 muscles
to smile and 43 to frown;
shiv, take the easy path: sing!

Sometimes
the obscurest bird
sings the sweetest song

I wonder if this thing with feathers,
Hope, is now in its nest, shiv,
Or it is flying away

Sing so sweet shiv
That hope asks
For a crumb

Hope is not a thing
with feathers shiv
It's with petals

Fuck the truth:
I mean make
Love to it

Stop telling me fairy tales
Get out of your cave
Life is to sing

We see
only because
we are different

Facebook fatigue:
Take me to a place
from where friends like,
shiv, to where strangers love,
to a place where followers trust

Sing
in the company
of sweet singers shiv

My guru lives in my heart.
That is an incomplete statement
Because he lives in your heart too.

Spring is beautiful shiv
due to differences
of color

p
Dear song
you are like a hurricane
blowing everyone in its path
And by whatever good fortune
I manage to reach your heart
and see you eye to eye
Do you hear how
shaken I am
I hear your
unstruck
silence

Two Better theories than Big Bang

In the beginning there was light.
Everything went downhill from there.

In the beginning it was dark.
Now there is a song.

"I don't think there will be a woman prime minister in my lifetime." – as education secretary in 1973

"People from my sort of background needed grammar schools to compete with children from privileged homes like Shirley Williams and Anthony Wedgwood Benn." – as Conservative leader in 1977

"Where there is discord, may we bring harmony. Where there is error, may we bring truth. Where there is doubt, may we bring faith. And where there is despair, may we bring hope." – on her election as prime minister in 1979

"We are not asking for a penny piece of community money for Britain. What we are asking is for a very large amount of our own money back, over and above what we contribute to the community, which is covered by our receipts from the community." – when negotiating the European community budget rebate in 1979

"To those waiting with bated breath for that favourite media catchphrase, the U-turn, I have only one thing to say: You turn if you want to. The lady's not for turning." – to the Conservative conference in 1980

"Just rejoice at that news and congratulate our forces and the marines. Rejoice." – announcing the liberation of South Georgia during the Falklands war in 1982

"They are casting their problems at society. And, you know, there's no such thing as society. There are individual men and women and there are families. And no government can do anything except through people, and people must look after themselves first. It is our duty to look after ourselves and then, also, to look after our neighbours." – in an interview in Women's Own in 1987

"It is ironic that just when those countries such as the Soviet Union, which have tried to run everything from the centre, are learning that success depends on dispersing power and decisions away from the centre, there are some in the community who seem to want to move in the opposite direction. We have not successfully rolled back the frontiers of the state in Britain only to see them reimposed at a European level with a European superstate exercising a new dominance from Brussels." – in the "Bruges speech", 1988

"The president of the [European] commission, Monsieur [Jacques] Delors, said at a press conference the other day that he wanted the European parliament to be the democratic body of the community, he wanted the commission to be the executive and he wanted the council of ministers to be the senate. No. No. No." – in a debate in the Commons in 1990

"I fight on. I fight to win." – after the inconclusive first ballot in the Tory leadership election, 1990

“In politics, If you want anything said, ask a man. If you want anything done, ask a woman.”
― Margaret Thatcher

“Being powerful is like being a lady. If you have to tell people you are, you aren't.”
― Margaret Thatcher

“The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.”
― Margaret Thatcher

“Look at a day when you are supremely satisfied at the end. It's not a day when you lounge around doing nothing; it's a day you've had everything to do and you've done it.”
― Margaret Thatcher

“You may have to fight a battle more than once to win it.”
― Margaret Thatcher

“If you just set out to be liked, you will be prepared to compromise on anything at anytime, and would achieve nothing. ”
― Margaret Thatcher

“Watch your thoughts for they become words.
Watch your words for they become actions.
Watch your actions for they become habits.
Watch your habits for they become your character.
And watch your character for it becomes your destiny.
What we think, we become.
My father always said that... and I think I am fine.”
― Margaret Thatcher

“I am extraordinarily patient, provided I get my own way in the end.”
― Margaret Thatcher

“Do you know that one of the great problems of our age is that we are governed by people who care more about feelings than they do about thoughts and ideas.”
― Margaret Thatcher, Margaret Thatcher

“Don't follow the crowd, let the crowd follow you.”
― Margaret Thatcher

“I always cheer up immensely if an attack is particularly wounding because I think, well, if they attack one personally, it means they have not a single political argument left.”
― Margaret Thatcher

“Europe was created by history. America was created by philosophy.”
― Margaret Thatcher

“I do not know anyone who has gotten to the top without hard work. That is the recipe. It will not always get you to the top, but it will get you pretty near.”
― Margaret Thatcher

“When I'm out of politics I'm going to run a business, it'll be called rent-a-spine”
― Margaret Thatcher

“Consensus: “The process of abandoning all beliefs, principles, values, and policies in search of something in which no one believes, but to which no one objects; the process of avoiding the very issues that have to be solved, merely because you cannot get agreement on the way ahead. What great cause would have been fought and won under the banner: ‘I stand for consensus?”
― Margaret Thatcher

“I usually make up my mind about a man in ten seconds, and I very rarely change it.”
― Margaret Thatcher

“To wear your heart on your sleeve isn't a very good plan; you should wear it inside, where it functions best.”
― Margaret Thatcher

“I think we've been through a period where too many people have been given to understand that if they have a problem, it's the government's job to cope with it. 'I have a problem, I'll get a grant.' 'I'm homeless, the government must house me.' They're casting their problem on society. And, you know, there is no such thing as society. There are individual men and women, and there are families. And no government can do anything except through people, and people must look to themselves first. It's our duty to look after ourselves and then, also to look after our neighbour. People have got the entitlements too much in mind, without the obligations. There's no such thing as entitlement, unless someone has first met an obligation

Socialism”
― Margaret Thatcher

“It used to be about trying to do something. Now it's about trying to be someone.”
― Margaret Thatcher

“No-one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions; he had money as well.”
― Margaret Thatcher

“Being democratic is not enough, a majority cannot turn what is wrong into right. In order to be considered truly free, countries must also have a deep love of liberty and an abiding respect for the rule of law.”
― Margaret Thatcher

“Socialists are happy until they run out of other people's money.”
― Margaret Thatcher

“Of course it's the same old story. Truth usually is the same old story.”
― Margaret Thatcher

“To those waiting with bated breath for that favorite media catchphrase, the U-turn, I have only this to say, ‘You turn if you want; the lady’s not for turning.”
― Margaret Thatcher

“Plan your work for today and every day, then work your plan”
― Margaret Thatcher

“Christmas is a day of meaning and traditions, a special day spent in the warm circle of family and friends."
~ (1925- ), English political leader. ”
― Margaret Thatcher

“If you set out to be liked, you will accomplish nothing.”
― Margaret Thatcher

“There are significant differences between the American and European version of capitalism. The American traditiionally emphasizes the need for limited government, light regulations, low taxes and maximum labour-market flexibility. Its success has been shown above all in the ability to create new jobs, in which it is consistently more successful than Europe.”
― Margaret Thatcher, The Path To Power

Spring

Green-shadowed people sit, or walk in rings,
Their children finger the awakened grass,
Calmly a cloud stands, calmly a bird sings,
And, flashing like a dangled looking-glass,
Sun lights the balls that bounce, the dogs that bark,
The branch-arrested mist of leaf, and me,
Threading my pursed-up way across the park,
An indigestible sterility.

Spring, of all seasons most gratuitous,
Is fold of untaught flower, is race of water,
Is earth's most multiple, excited daughter;

And those she has least use for see her best,
Their paths grown craven and circuitous,
Their visions mountain-clear, their needs immodest.

High Windows

When I see a couple of kids
And guess he's fucking her and she's
Taking pills or wearing a diaphragm,
I know this is paradise

Everyone old has dreamed of all their lives--
Bonds and gestures pushed to one side
Like an outdated combine harvester,
And everyone young going down the long slide

To happiness, endlessly. I wonder if
Anyone looked at me, forty years back,
And thought, That'll be the life;
No God any more, or sweating in the dark

About hell and that, or having to hide
What you think of the priest. He
And his lot will all go down the long slide
Like free bloody birds. And immediately

Rather than words comes the thought of high windows:
The sun-comprehending glass,
And beyond it, the deep blue air, that shows
Nothing, and is nowhere, and is endless.

Coming

On longer evenings,
Light, chill and yellow,
Bathes the serene
Foreheads of houses.
A thrush sings,
Laurel-surrounded
In the deep bare garden,
Its fresh-peeled voice
Astonishing the brickwork.
It will be spring soon,
It will be spring soon —
And I, whose childhood
Is a forgotten boredom,
Feel like a child
Who comes on a scene
Of adult reconciling,
And can understand nothing
But the unusual laughter,
And starts to be happy.

The trees

The trees are coming into leaf
Like something almost being said;
The recent buds relax and spread,
Their greenness is a kind of grief.

Is it that they are born again
And we grow old? No, they die too,
Their yearly trick of looking new
Is written down in rings of grain.

Yet still the unresting castles thresh
In fullgrown thickness every May.
Last year is dead, they seem to say,
Begin afresh, afresh, afresh.

Gift
- Czeslaw Milosz

A day so happy
Fog has lifted early, I work in the garden.
Hummingbirds are stopping over honeysuckle flowers
There is no thing on earth I want to possess.
I know no one worth my envying them.
Whatever evil I had suffered, I have forgotten
To think that once I was the same person, does not embarrass me.
In my body I feel no pain
When straghtening up, I see the blue sea sails.

My take
I read this poem in Jane Hirshfield's essay, "Facing the Lion." She mentions that while this poem is a "good" poem, a happy poem there is a lion lurking behind. For every poem that describes joy must also hold joy's shadow. All the things that Milosz describes here as pleasures are temporary. I changed something in the poem and made the joys permanent. I made the tense of the poem present. So instead of "Fog lifted early, I worked in the garden" -- I made it present tense. Now if you read the poem, it is describing the present, the now. Now the poem is spiritual. The person who reads it does not want to possess anything and has forgotten all evil, as long as he recites this poem.

The Tense of the Poem

I first met the poem in an essay
by Jane Hirshfield.

She said it was a happy poem,
though somewhere behind it
a lion was breathing.

The fog lifts.
Someone tends the garden.
Hummingbirds pause at the honeysuckle.

Nothing is worth possessing.
No one worth envying.

But I changed one small thing—
the tense.

Now the fog lifts each time you read.
The garden finds its gardener.

And somewhere inside the ribs
an old teacher clears his throat

and begins the song.

The Word

By Tony Hoagland

Down near the bottom
of the crossed-out list
of things you have to do today,

between “green thread”
and “broccoli” you find
that you have penciled “sunlight.”

Resting on the page, the word
is as beautiful, it touches you
as if you had a friend

and sunlight were a present
he had sent you from some place distant
as this morning—to cheer you up,

and to remind you that,
among your duties, pleasure
is a thing,

that also needs accomplishing
Do you remember?
that time and light are kinds

of love, and love
is no less practical
than a coffee grinder

or a safe spare tire?
Tomorrow you may be utterly
without a clue

but today you get a telegram,
from the heart in exile
proclaiming that the kingdom

still exists,
the king and queen alive,
still speaking to their children,

—to any one among them
who can find the time,
to sit out in the sun and listen.

My Take:

Songs are always free.
You just need
the mindset to sing.
You just need to
create the opportunity.
You just need to put
sunlight in your to-do list.
Mostly you need just that
but sometimes you need
some courage too.
Sing, Shiv, Sing!

One day you will have finished
your analysis of Walt Whitman,
your romance with Emily Dickinson

One day after you have smelled
all the red roses
in Shakespeare's sonnets

One due you will have moved
beyond the way Newton describes
even relatively from Einstein

You will have read each
parable that Jesus orates,
every teaching that Buddha sings

One day after you are done fighting
with all the atheists and religious folk
who want you converted

One day after you have heard
all notes in all symphonies
in every other possible combination

One day after you have covered
each alphabet, word, phrase
and every sentence made

One day, Shiv, you'll get your head
out of these books of paper
and look into the leaves of nature.
