I was listening to a recording that I did with Santoor maestro Pt. Sandeep Chatterjee. We did a couple of recordings of raags that were new to him and I asked him for a raag that he would teach me. And he explained Kalashri (also spelled Kalashree) to me.  We recorded Mool Mantra and "Aad Sach" (See 19141-1.3 Kalashri Mool Mantra with Santoor). 

I randomly listened to this today and did some mixing and effects on the track. But it sounds like the recording that we did was much like Kalavati. So I looked up Kalashri on YouTube and seems like it was a raag conceived by Pt. Bhimsen Joshi.  Pt. Bhimsen Joshi defines it in the following recording. This is obviously is a mix of Kalavati and Rageshri.  It is similar to Raag Jansamohini, and Madh Kalyan (Also spelled Mudh Kalyan, Explained by Salamat Ali Khan).

Finding you was an excuse
All my life I looked for myself

मैं उसको हश्र में किस नाम से सदा देता
के मेरा उसका तअर्रूफ़ ग़ाएबाना था
(हश्र = क़यामत), (सदा = आवाज़), (तअर्रूफ़ = जान-पहचान, परिचय), (ग़ायबाना = अप्रत्यक्ष, पीठ पीछे )

In calamity, what name would I call you with?
For our connection had no trace

अजब कशिश थी समंदर की सब्ज़ आँखों में
हर इक चश्म: उसी की तरफ़ रवाना था
(कशिश = आकर्षण, खिंचाव), (सब्ज़ = हरी), (चश्म:= पानी का सोता, छोटी नदी, झरना)

There was a strange attraction in ocean's eyes
Every stream was running towards them

मैं तेरी धुन में रवां था मुझे पता न चला
गुबार-ए-राह में शामिल ग़म-ए-ज़माना था
(रवां = बहता हुआ), (गुबार-ए-राह = रास्ते की धूल), (ग़म-ए-ज़माना = जमाने का ग़म)

I didn't realize enamored in your tune
The sorrows of the world were lost in road dust 


अजब रंग था रिन्दों का तेरी महफ़िल में
थी प्यास जिसमें जितनी, मिला पैमाना था
(रिन्दों = शराबियों)

There was a strange color of the drunkards in your party
Everyone enjoyed however much they wanted

तुम्हारे दर से आता हूँ तो लोग कहते हैं
फ़क़ीर आता है लेकिन अदा शहाना था
(शहाना = शाहों जैसा, राजकीय)

When I come from your place people say
He is a beggar but his style is royal

तुम्हीं ने थामा है तो संभला है तेरा दीवाना
नहीं तो आवारा दिल का कहाँ ठिकाना था


वही नहीं तो वर्क़ किस लिए सियाह करें
सुखन तो अर्ज़-ए-तमन्ना का एक बहाना था
(वर्क़ = पृष्ठ, पन्ना), (सियाह = काला), ((सुखन = कथन, कविता, काव्य)



समंद-ए-शौक़ था 'अमजद' रवां दवां जब तक
हमारे पीछे सितारों का आशियाना था
(समंद-ए-शौक़ = अभिलाषाओं का घोड़ा), (रवां दवां = भागता दौड़ता हुआ)



This ghazal written by Shaad Azeemabadi (1846 - 1927) showcases the journey of a lover who is imploring his beloved to join him. Or perhaps its a journey of self discovery.

Wealth and beauty are not so difficult to obtain. Paradise and royal power are not so difficult to obtain.

Foods and delicacies are not so difficult to obtain. Elegant clothes are not so difficuilt to obtain.

नच दुरलभं सुत मित्र भ्रात बांधव नच दुरलभं बनिता बिलासह ॥
Children, friends, siblings and relatives are not so difficult to obtain. The pleasures of woman are not so difficult to obtain.

नच दुरलभं बिदिआ प्रबीणं नच दुरलभं चतुर चंचलह ॥
Knowledge and wisdom are not so difficult to obtain. Cleverness and trickery are not so difficult to obtain.

Dhuralabhan Eaek Bhagavaan Naameh Naanak Labadhhiyan Saadhhasang Kirapaa Prabhan ||35||
दुरलभं एक भगवान नामह नानक लबध्यिं साधसंगि क्रिपा प्रभं ॥३५॥
Only the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is difficult to obtain. O Nanak, it is only obtained by God's Grace, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||35||

खूबसूरत तोहमतें चुभने लगीं
दिलनशीं इलज़ाम याद आने लगे

Ilaj-e-dard-e-dil tumse masiha ho nahi sakata
Tum accha kar nahi skte, main accha ho nahi sakta

Tumhe chahu, tumhare chahne walo ko chahu
Mera dil fer do, mujhse ye jhagda ho nahi sakta

abhi marte hai ham jine ka tana tum na fir dena
yeh tana unko dena jinse aisa ho nahi sakta

Dam-e-aakhir meri baali pe majmaa hai hasino ka,
farishta maut ka phir aaye parda ho nahi sakta

इलाज-ए-दर्द-ए-दिल तुम से मसीहा हो नहीं सकता 
तुम अच्छा कर नहीं सकते मैं अच्छा हो नहीं सकता

मिरा दिल फेर दो मुझ से ये झगड़ा हो नहीं सकता 

अभी मरते हैं हम जीने का ता'ना फिर न देना तुम 
ये ता'ना उन को देना जिन से ऐसा हो नहीं सकता 

दम-ए-आख़िर मिरी बालीं पे मजमा' है हसीनों का 
फ़रिश्ता मौत का फिर आए पर्दा हो नहीं सकता

अदू को छोड़ दो फिर जान भी माँगो तो हाज़िर है

पराया माल इन बातों से अपना हो नहीं सकता 

Translation:

O God, You can't treat the pain of my heart
You can't make me good, and I can't become good

Let me love you, Let me love the ones who love you
Come and change me, I cannot fight this fight

I'll readily die now, don't taunt my living
Go taunt those who cannot die

In my last breaths I am celebrating beauty of women
If the angel of death comes again, there is nothing to hide

मनुष्यत्वं मुमुक्षुत्वं महापुरुषसंश्रयः

Transliteration:
durlabhaM trayamevaitat daivaanugrahahetukam
manuShyatvaM mumukShutvaM mahaapuruShasaMshrayaH
- vivekachUDaamaNi

Meaning:
These 3 are hard to come and come only, with God's grace - human birth, desire for liberation, company of the learned and noble.

Commentary:

1. In this life, one takes so much for granted. What one does not realize is that, just being born as a human being is a rare blessing in itself. Amongst the multitudes of billions of organisms (living beings), only a few are given the opportunity of being born as humans. That by itself, should be considered as our privilege and utilized with utmost respect.

2. Even if one is born as a human, not everyone gets the desire or drive to work towards liberation (moksha). A very few of the few beings are inspired with this desire.

3. Inspite of being inspired to attain moksha, not everyone is lucky enough to get the company and proximity of the learned and enlightened. Those that are blessed with the above 3 are truely fortunate. They should make use of every ounce of it and count their blessings along the way.

The Vivekachudamani (Sanskrit: विवेकचूडामणि) is a famous Sanskrit poem ascribed to Adi Shankara in the eighth century. It expounds the Advaita Vedanta philosophy[2] and is in the form of 580 verses in the Shardula Vikridita metre. The Vivekachudamani describes developing Viveka, the human faculty of discrimination or discernment between real (unchanging, eternal) and unreal (changing, temporal), as the central task in the spiritual life, and calls it the crown jewel among the essentials for Moksha.[3] The titleVivekachudamani translates to Crest Jewel of Discrimination.[4] Through the centuries, theVivekachudamani has been translated into several languages and has been the topic of many commentaries and expositions.
