Āsā mėhlā 1.
Ŧiṯ sarvaraṛai bẖaīle nivāsā pāṇī pāvak ṯinėh kīā.
Pankaj moh pag nahī cẖālai ham ḏekẖā ṯah dūbīale. ||1||
Man ek na cẖeṯas mūṛ manā.
Har bisraṯ ṯere guṇ galiā. ||1|| rahā▫o.
Nā hao jaṯī saṯī nahī paṛiā mūrakẖ mugḏẖā janam bẖaiā.
Paraṇvaṯ Nānak ṯin kī sarṇā jin ṯū nāhī vīsriā. ||2||3||

In that pool, people have made their homes, but the water there is as hot as fire!
In the swamp of emotional attachment, their feet cannot move. I have seen them drowning there. ||1||
In your mind, you do not remember the One Lord-you fool!
You have forgotten the Lord; your virtues shall wither away. ||1||Pause||
I am not celibate, nor truthful, nor scholarly. I was born foolish and ignorant into this world.
Prays Nanak, I seek the Sanctuary of those who have not forgotten You, O Lord! ||2||3||

ਮਨ ਏਕੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਸਿ ਮੂੜ ਮਨਾ ॥
ਹਰਿ ਬਿਸਰਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਲਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਨਾ ਹਉ ਜਤੀ ਸਤੀ ਨਹੀ ਪੜਿਆ ਮੂਰਖ ਮੁਗਧਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਭਇਆ ॥
ਪ੍ਰਣਵਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਾ ਜਿਨ ਤੂ ਨਾਹੀ ਵੀਸਰਿਆ ॥੨॥੩॥

पंकज मोह पग नही चालै हम देखा तह डूबीयले ॥१॥

Two Meanings in Fareedkoti Translation

Notice the Fareed Koti translation gives two alternative meanings for the first line. It is possible that the first stanza can be sung at the end of the shabad with the affect of the alternative meaning:
In that pool of the world, the people have their homes; there, the Lord has created water and fire.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਮੁੰਦ੍ਰ ਮੇਂ ਤਿਸ ਪਰਮੇਸ੍ਵਰ ਨੇ ਪਾਣੀ, ਭਾਵ ਸਬਦਾਦਿ ਅਰ ਪਾਵਕ, ਭਾਵ ਆਸਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਰੂਪ ਅਗਨੀ ਕੋ ਉਤਪੰਨ ਕੀਆ ਹੈ ਤਿਸ ਬਿਖੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਹੂਆ ਹੈ॥
In the mud of earthly attachment, their feet have become mired, and I have seen them drowning there. ||1||
ਮੋਹ ਰੂਪ ਜੋ ਚਿਕੜੁ ਹੈ ਤਿਸ ਮੇਂ ਬੁਧੀ ਰੂਪੁ ਪੈਰ ਫਸਾ ਹੂਆ ਪਰਮੇਸ੍ਵਰ ਕੀ ਤਰਫ ਚਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਤਾ ਹੈ, ਹਮ ਨੇ ਤਿਸ ਸਰੋਵਰ ਮੇਂ ਜੀਵੋਂ ਕੋ ਡੂਬਤੇ ਦੇਖਾ ਹੈ; ਵਾ ਤਿਸ ਸਤਸੰਗ ਸਰੋਵਰ ਮੇਂ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਹੂਆ ਹੈ ਜਹਾਂ ਸੰਤੋਂ ਨੇ ਆਸਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਆਦਿ ਅਗਨਿ ਕੋ ਪਾਣੀ, ਭਾਵ ਸਾਂਤ ਕੀਆ ਹੈ, ਪੰਕਜਿ ਪਦ ਸੇ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਅੰਗੀਕਾਰ ਕਰਨੇ, ਸੋ ਜਿਨ ਕੋ ਭਗਵੰਤ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲੋਂ ਕਾ ਮੋਹੁ ਹੂਆ ਹੈ, ਤਿਨ ਕਾ ਬੁਧੀ ਰੂਪ ਪੈਰ ਚਲਾਇਮਾਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਤਾ। ਹਮਨੇ ਦੇਖਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਸੰਤ ਤਿਸੀ ਸਰ ਮੇਂ ਗੋਤਾ ਲਗਾਇ ਮਗਨ ਰਹਤੇ ਹੈਂ॥੧॥
O foolish people, why don't you remember the One Lord?
ਹੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਜੀਵ! ਤੂੰ ਏਕ ਪਰਮੇਸ੍ਵਰ ਕੋ ਚਿੰਤਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਿੰਤੂ ਕਰੁ॥
Forgetting the Lord, your virtues shall wither away. ||1||Pause||
ਹਰੀ ਕੇ ਬਿਸਰਨੇ ਸੇ ਜਿਤਨਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣੋਂ ਕਾ ਸਮੁਦਾਇ ਹੈ, ਸੋ ਗਲਾ ਹੈ, ਭਾਵ ਬ੍ਯਰਥ ਹੈ; ਵਾ ਹਰੀ ਬਿਸਰਨੇ ਸੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਗਲ ਮੇਂ ਰਸਾ ਪੜਤਾ ਹੈ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥☬ਤਾਂ ਤੇ ਐਸੇ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰੁ:
I am not a celibate, nor am I truthful, nor a scholar; I was born foolish and ignorant.
ਹੇ ਭਗਵੰਤ! ਨਾ ਮੈਂ ਜਤੀ ਹੂੰ ਅਰ ਨਾ ਮੈਂ ਸਤਵਾਦੀ ਅਰ ਨਾ ਪੜਾ ਹੂਆ ਹੂੰ, ਮੁਝ ਮੂਰਖ ਕਾ ਅਗ੍ਯਾਤਪਣੇ ਮੇਂ ਜਨਮੁ ਬ੍ਯਰਥ ਹੂਆ ਹੈ॥
Prays Nanak, I seek the Sanctuary of those who do not forget You, Lord. ||2||29||
ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕਹਤੇ ਹੈਂ: ਜਿਨ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋਂ ਕੋ ਤੂੰ ਕਬੀ ਬਿਸਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਮੈਂ ਸਰਨ ਪੜਾ ਹੂੰ॥੨॥੨੯॥
