As a business traveller, who is on a plane every week 4-6 times, the poem that has made the journeys so much happier is Guru Arjan Dev’s “There is no stranger, no enemy, I see only friends,” supposed to be sung in Raag Kanra.
There are so many poems that remind me of the same melody.  And one that I tend to remember often in my travels — like today sitting at home on a rare Sunday — is this one from Walt Whitman.  Short, sweet and joyous.  A poem that makes you happier in this strange world.

                                      To You
STRANGER! if you, passing, meet me, and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me?
And why should I not speak to you?

I speak to a lot more of my fellow passengers now.  And have learned so much, and many many friends.  Who says poems don’t make a difference?  Who says they don’t make lives happier?
Speak to who you want to speak to
Hum the melody that brings joy to you
Dance the dance that exhilierates you
Flock with birds of your feather
And there is only one feather
Do what makes you happy
There is only one life
One day there is death
Who cares about consequences
Shiv, Sing!
